At the end of the Oklahoma/Ohio State home-and-home series, the college football world is left with a tie. I wish it could have ended better for the Buckeye faithful (including myself). Still, the series was very successful, not only in terms of playoff implications but also just having two blue blood programs playing. At both teams respective home fields, nonetheless. Additionally, each home game was extremely successful, including the one in Oklahoma breaking a home attendance record.

These games are also just flat out entertaining to watch, and with the series tied we want… no we NEED it to get extended. With senior quarterbacks Baker Mayfield (hate him) and J.T. Barrett (don’t like him right now either) leaving this year, we would get some fresh faces, and hopefully a new rivalry to spark.

Looking forward to future matchups (hopefully), we also take a look at some of the faces that we would see shine for the two teams. For Ohio State, it would have to be the running back duo of Mike Weber and J.K. Dobbins. For the Bucks, the quarterback would likely be dual-threat Dwayne Haskins or Joe Burrow, both of whom are very exciting. On the opposite side of the field it would have to be Kyler Murray, a Redshirt Junior transfer out of Texas A&M who replaces Heisman favorite Baker Mayfield. Less pocket passing and more running-based offense expand the rivalry into a new era.

This series is good for the landscape of college football, too. An extension for the series would also lead to a change in scheduling across college football. Top-tier teams would start scheduling other top teams in nonconference games, and if we are lucky enough they won’t be at a neutral field. Imagine if Alabama and Florida State started with the Seminole throwing his spear into midfield. Or Michigan and Florida in Ann Arbor. Although this will drop the possibility of huge upsets from FCS teams, it would be for the greater good to have top teams playing each other every week. Overall, it would be a major step up in the early-season action of college football.
