Notre Dame revealed their Shamrock Series jerseys in one of the most creative ways possible. They used two of their All-American players, their head coach, and two notable alum and recreated an iconic scene from The Hangover. The correlation is that on November 8th, Notre Dame plays BYU in Las Vegas for Notre Dame’s annual Shamrock Series game.

With how much this video popped online, other college football programs should take notes. The world of film and television is vast and with programs scattered across the nation, there is a world of ideas. So, what other teams could utilize great scenes in film and television to reveal jerseys?

A Few Good Navy Football Players

The film A Few Good Men is an all time classic. The thing is, many individuals have not seen the film, but everyone knows the famous, “YOU CAN’T HANDLE THE TRUTH” scene.

With the film revolving around the Navy, you could have senior S John Marshall in the Tom Cruise role questioning OT Kip Franklin in the Jack Nicholson role. The concept could be that Marshall caught wind of new jerseys for the Army-Navy game and he knows that Franklin knows about them. He begins to press Franklin. “What color are the jerseys?” “Do the helmets have a special Navy fighter jet design?” All Marshall wants is the truth about these new jerseys.

Once Franklin gets fed up with the questioning, he snaps on Marshal. “YOU CAN’T HANDLE THE NEW JERSEYS!” The courtroom filled with Naval Academy football players goes silent. In the film, Nicholson monologues about the case at hand. This is where Franklin can monologue and describe the uniforms. “THEY’RE NAVY BLUE. OUR HELMETS ARE BABY BLUE WITH A YELLOW STRIP DOWN THE CENTER. ON THE SIDE OF THE HELMETS, THERE’S A SILHOUETTE OF A GRUMMAN F-14 TOMCAT. WE HAVE WORDS ON THE BACK OF THE JERSEYS. HONOR. CODE. LOYALTY.”

At this point, Coach Niumatalolo would bring the Midshipmen’s new jerseys into the court room and the place would erupt in cheers.

Will Hunting Has An Equation For New Threads

There is a plethora of Boston-based movies from Mystic River to The Town to Fever Pitch, but I think Good Will Hunting stands on top of those films. With Good Will Hunting taking place mostly at a college in Boston, Boston College football can take advantage of this and make an epic jersey reveal video.

I’m proposing that BC uses the above video as an outline. Let me paint a picture. Head coach Jeff Hafley talks to his entire roster in a team meeting. He brings up that he posted a blank jersey on the board outside the meeting room. Hafleys proposal to his team is that he’ll give extra gear to whoever designs the best jersey. Fast forward, Hafley is at a BC coaches mixer and WR Zay Flowers approaches Hafley asking him, “Do you know who designed the jersey on the board? It’s unreal!” Hafley storms out and it cuts to him looking at the board. He’s astonished and asks the players around him who did it. CB Josh DeBerry and LB Kam Arnold decline that is was their work. BC will use these jerseys as their new home threads.

In the next scene, Hafley calls another team meeting. The meeting room is packed. Other athletes from field hockey, basketball, and soccer have congregated to find out who made the new home jerseys. Unfortunately, no one takes credit. To conclude the meeting, Hafley adds that he put another jersey on the board for someone to design away jerseys. It then cuts to QB Phil Jurkovec on the board designing an away jersey in a janitors outfit. Jurkovec is Will Hunting. Hafley leaves the meeting room with DC Tem Lukabu and notices Jurkovec designing a jersey. He chases him down the hall and Jurkovec disappears. Lukabu is staring at the new away jersey and Hafley returns with a shocked gaze on his face.

Georgia Tech Just Needs Baby

I recently watched Baby Driver and fell in love with it. The plot and soundtrack are perfect. Baby Driver is based in Atlanta, the same city Georgia Tech resides in. My concept for a Georgia Tech-Baby Driver crossover video would be for when Tech plays their instate rivals Georgia. I’m thinking that they use the first scene of the movie where Baby pulls up in front of a bank and three thieves walk in and rob the bank. They then flee from the bank and Baby successfully evades police. I do want to twist the end a bit, though.

To start, Tech could use QB Jeff Sims as Baby. He sits in the drivers seat and throws on his headphones. This could also be an NIL opportunity for Sims. Have him partner with Bose or Apple, and he tosses a pair of their headphones on. I’d say to keep the same song that Baby listens to, which is Bellbottoms by The John Spencer Blues Explosion. Then, the three experienced bank robbers could be LB Ayinde Eley, LB Charlie Thomas, and WR Malachi Carter.

In the movie, the group robs a bank. But what if instead of a bank, Tech sets up a fake Adidas store. The players run in and run out with bags full of new jerseys and then Sims takes off in a Tech team van. He evades Georgia Tech campus police while jamming out to Bellbottoms. He quickly shakes them and parks next to the team facility. While the original scene has the group switch cars, I want to change it to where the group of players open the trunk, unzip a duffle bag, and pull out one of the jerseys. This could be a cool spin off of the 2017 action film that takes place in Atlanta.
