You’re in the student section, watching the final seconds of a win for your school run off the clock. Rushing the court/field after a big win is an unforgettable experience as a sports fan; I speak from experience. I’m generally pro-rush-the-court, even when conferences have started handing out bogus fines for fanbases doing so. But it seems as if we’ve lost sight of some basic etiquette when it comes to deciding the right context to storm the court. I crushed Colorado State fans in my Mountain West recap and later on Twitter for rushing the court after wins against mediocre teams (at best) two games in a row. In that moment, as you decide how to celebrate your team’s win, I want you to think of this article. And to the angry Rams fan going at me on Twitter yesterday, this one’s for you.

I give you — Should you storm the court? A flowchart.

Before Northwestern fans blow up on me, it goes without saying that if you win a game like that to possibly seal your first tourney bid, you rush the court, no hesitation.
