If you missed this weekend of college football, I’m sorry. But look no further than right here to catch up on what happened.

  • Week two is always the worst week in college football, and this year was no different.

The second week of every college football season is like the second weekend on a college campus. The first weekend is unbelievable. Coming off syllabus week, your only responsibility that weekend is to go wild. Everyone spends all summer preparing to make their party as great as it can be, and everyone has a good time. Then the second weekend comes around. Everyone is tired from last weekend, and there are actually school requirements to deal with. So all in all, it sucks. Needless to say, this weekend of college football sucked. When Iowa vs. Iowa State is a top 5 matchup of the week, it won’t be too entertaining. But what do you expect? Week One was absolute bonkers, and teams can’t schedule quality opponents for ALL of their non-conference games, so I’m alright with it.

  • Let’s do a Battle at Bristol Part 2.

How awesome was this game? Even though the game itself could have been more entertaining, this crowd was electric. Give me South Alabama vs. North Texas in front of 150,000 fans, and I would watch it, but put two Power-5 conference teams in front of 150,000 fans and I’m watching it religiously. Week two was weak, but this was a bright spot.

  • The Texas quarterback carousel is working out.

We all knew that Baker Mayfield’s transfer from Texas Tcch to Oklahoma was a success. Trevor Knight seems to be a right fit at Texas A&M. The only unanswered piece to this puzzle was Kenny Hill’s (Trill’s?) transfer to TCU. Two games into the season, he’s been making plays. I’m not a big fan of the transfer epidemic in college sports, but it’s nice to see it work out for players.

  • Is this the year of the freshman quarterback?

Nobody likes freshmen. It happens to everyone where you meet a cool guy in a class or at a party, but then you find out he’s a freshmen and you aren’t as exciting. It’s just tough to make an impact as a freshman. Despite this, the freshmen quarterbacks are taking over this year of college football. We saw it first with Texas’s Shane Beuchele against Notre Dame, then Deondre Francois took over at Florida State, and now for the second straight week, Jalen Hurts has proven himself as the starter at Alabama. This year of college football is giving hope to freshmen all over the country.

  • #MACTION is must-see football.

We’re only a couple weeks away from the best time of the year…ESPN’s weekday #MACTION. Central Michigan’s dramatic win over Oklahoma State is proof that you need to tune into these weekday games. Western Michigan beat Northwestern last week. Toledo looks primed to have a great season. Don’t overlook these games just because the MAC is not a power-5 conference. This is some fun football to watch.

  • Penn State football isn’t back, but it’s coming.

Penn State football feels like that friend from high school who you lost contact with during college, then met back up with one summer after a few years. It will always be a little awkward and it won’t be the same at first, but eventually you’ll be hitting the bars and enjoying yourselves again. Penn State has been very average ever since their sanctions hit. But their tight loss to a very good Pitt team is showing that progress is happening. It won’t be long until it feels like the old Penn State never left us.

  • Week Three is going to be awesome.

If week two was the Natural Light of college football weeks, then week three has the potential to be the Blue Moon. Michigan State vs. Notre Dame, Alabama vs. Ole Miss and Ohio State vs. Oklahoma are just a few of the high-profile games on slate this week. Get those grills cooking and tailgates popping because we got ourselves one intense week of football ahead of us.
