Todd Haley made waves on social media this morning when he posted a link to the Google search of his own name. While the common theory is a social blunder from an inexperienced Twitter user (Haley only has 268 tweets), this tells me something more.

Haley’s search is clearly the former NFL coach checking his background after an inquiry into his willingness to coach football again.

The longtime receivers coach, offensive coordinator and one time head coach lives comfortably in Sarasota, Florida, serving as the offensive coordinator for Riverview High School’s varsity football team.

Haley’s offense averages 25.25 points per game in 2020. The Falcons currently average 24.4. (MaxPreps, NFL)

Haley also spends his time talking football on Sirius XM Radio. He’s still “with it”, analyzing today’s game, plucking different looks, building his scheme and using a high school football team to implement the simplicity, yet overarching complexity of an offense.

More Than Just a Blank Stare

That’s where Arthur Blank and the Atlanta Falcons come into play. Blank fired head coach Dan Quinn and general manager Thomas Dimitroff after Sunday’s loss against the Carolina Panthers. An 0-5 start has the franchise likely looking to make wholesale changes in the offseason. While Raheem Morris steps into his interim shoes once more, it’s not a long term solution.

When the NFLs hiring patterns zigged, Blank zagged. Hiring Dan Quinn, a defensive coach went against what the NFL would soon become: an offensive league filled with young head coaching candidates.

Now Blank has the opportunity to right the ship, hire somebody with offensive experience, yet not too progressive for Atlanta’s taste.

Haley with Matt Ryan and the first-round weapons in the Falcons offense is a match made in Heaven. It’s up to Blank to put the pieces together.
