Wisconsin Badgers (7-5) vs. Miami Hurricanes (7-5)

The 2018 New Era Pinstripe Bowl kicks off on Saturday 12/27 at 5:15 EST on ESPN, and sees the Wisconsin Badgers facing off against the Miami Hurricanes in Yankee Stadium. This happens to be a rematch of last year’s orange bowl where Wisconsin defeated Miami 34-24. Both teams have had disappointing seasons coming into this game, and will be looking to close out the year on a high note with a win!

How they got Here: Wisconsin Badgers

There were plenty of expectations for this Wisconsin team coming into the season. However, those expectations were never reached and the Badgers finished the year a disappointing 7-5. The Badgers were able to win seven games because of Jonathan Taylor, their fantastic offensive line, and solid defense. Taylor only needs 11 yards on Saturday to eclipse the 2,000 yard rushing mark which is an impressive achievement. Taylor will need to be great on Saturday because Wisconsin will have to start backup quarterback Jack Coan.

How they got Here: Miami Hurricanes

After two successful seasons under Mark Richt, Miami has high expectations as well heading into the season. Just like Wisconsin, they fell short. The Hurricanes had an inconsistent offense all season that hindered their team. However, the defense for Miami is what really carried this team. They were able to keep games close and allowed the offense a lot of leeway when it came to mistakes. If Miami is going to win on Saturday, it will be because their defense has had another strong performance.

Player to Watch: Jonathan Taylor (Wisconsin)

Jonathan Taylor is arguably the best running back in the nation. As mentioned earlier, he only needs 11 more yards to hit the 2,000 yard mark. His stellar season earned him the Doak Walker award which is given to the nation’s best running back. In this game, Wisconsin will look to get him involved early and often. If he gets going on the ground, it will be a long day for Miami.

Betting Lines

Currently, Miami is a 3 point favorite with the over/under set at 47.5 points.

Prediction: Wisconsin 27 – Miami 21

This game has the makeup of a defensive struggle where the outcome will be decided by which offense makes the most plays and limits mistakes. While neither offense has been incredible this season, I think Wisconsin will be able to run the ball effectively and control the game. It will be a tight game, but Wisconsin pulls it out 27-21.
