Oklahoma State basketball is officially on the come up. Head coach Mike Boynton is adding another big time recruit to his squad.

The number two ranked player in the country Cade Cunningham announced his commitment Tuesday night, choosing Oklahoma State. He had offers from Kentucky, North Carolina, Florida, and Washington, but chose OSU over them all.

Cunningham, a 6 foot 6 combo guard from Arlington, Texas, plays for Montverde Academy in Florida. He plays for the same school as many other basketball players currently in the NBA, including: Joel Embiid, RJ Barrett, Dakari Johnson, Luc Mbah a Moute, D’Angelo Russell, and Ben Simmons.

Oklahoma State landed their highest rated recruit since 2005, when the number one overall prospect Gerald Green signed with OSU. Green ended up being selected with the 18th pick in the 2005 draft by the Boston Celtics. Mike Boynton and crew were the first school to offer Cunningham back in 2017, and have been hot on the trail ever since.

This commitment comes less than a week after Rondel Walker announced his commitment to OSU. Walker is the number 2 ranked player in the state of Oklahoma, and was a teammate to Cunningham at the Nike EYBL circuit. The Cowboys are also hoping that the top ranked player in Oklahoma also commits to Stillwater.

Bryce Thompson commits on November 12th, and his final four schools are Kansas, North Carolina, Oklahoma, and Oklahoma State. Thompson, a 6 foot 5 guard from Tulsa, OK, is planning to visit OSU Wednesday before making his final decision Tuesday.

If Oklahoma State can land Thompson as well, Mike Boynton could be creating a new perennial powerhouse.
