The Top 5

North Carolina (LW:1) 19-4 (7-2)

This feels so wrong and I’ll probably get accused of playing favorites for doing this, but I don’t care if you like it or not. Miami is a tough place to play, believe it or not, and every other team from last week’s top 5 lost at least one game, besides Louisville. In the long run, UNC will be fine, but they have a tough stretch coming up in the next couple of weeks.

Louisville (LW:5) 18-4 (6-3)

The Cardinals were the lone top five team from last week that didn’t lose, as rewarded by their jump from fifth to second in these rankings. They probably would’ve moved all the way up had those wins not been against Pitt and NC State. Nonetheless, the Cardinals are looking strong in conference play, with their only game this week being against Boston College.

Virginia (LW:4) 16-4 (6-2)

All in all, I would call this a pretty successful week for the Cavaliers. They were able to take down Notre Dame on the road before losing at Villanova by a buzzer-beating tip in. This week Virginia will have a chance to pad their W-L record by facing Virginia Tech and Syracuse.

Notre Dame (LW:3)17-5 (6-3)

The hype was all there… until it wasn’t anymore. After going on a roll and leading the ACC less than two weeks ago, the Irish have now lost two of their past three games, including against Virginia and Georgia Tech this past week. Things won’t get any easier as their next two games are against Duke and North Carolina.

Florida State (LW:2)18-4 (6-3)

Speaking of hype teams, the Seminoles had a giant let down this week. With a couple of road wins they could’ve easily been vaulted into the top five, but are instead clinging on to a top 15 ranking after losing to both Syracuse and Georgia Tech. If they’re not careful this week against Clemson and NC State, Coach K’s motivation tactics could finally break the rankings.
