The Beanpot Tournament is one of my absolute favorite traditions in college sports. Every year Northeastern, Boston College, Boston University & Harvard get together for the four-team tournament on the first two Mondays of February.

Boston University and Boston College have combined for fifty championships in tournament’s nearly 70-year history.

Northeastern is the highest-ranked team coming into the tournament with Harvard right behind em.

BU and BC have shaken off slow starts and played strong through their Hockey East Schedules.

All four of these teams match up pretty well with one another making this one of the most intriguing tournaments in recent memory.

How to Watch

r/hockeystreams has been my go-to before. If you’re in the northeast, NESN carries the games so you can skip the crummy streams.

Fun Facts

Northeastern won their first Beanpot tournament in 1980, just days before the United States would upset the Soviet Union in the greatest upset in the history of sports.

The tournament started out as filler games after Christmas to fill the old arena in Boston. Games were eventually moved to the Boston Garden, thus the Beanpot was born.

When the tournament started all four participants were in the ECAC, now only Harvard is in the ECAC. BU, BC and Northeastern all compete in the Hockey East.

Prediction

Northeastern had a tough weekend against Providence but they’re still a great hockey team that I think could be a legit threat in the Frozen Four. I’m taking the Huskies this year,
