The 2020 NFL Draft is less than a month away. Following free agency, needs and fits are becoming much more clear. This is just going to be for my top 15 prospects while my top-32 big board can be found here.
Also, these are realistic landing spots. So while Joe Burrow would be amazing in New Orleans, that’s not going to happen. Every team will only be used once.
1. Chase Young – Washington
Chase Young in Washington is going to be a dream come true for both sides. Young gets to become the dominant piece to an already great defensive line and shouldn’t have to struggle with double teams early in his career.
2. Jeff Okudah – Detroit Lions
There’s no better spot than Detroit than Okudah because there’s no better role for Okudah than the one Detroit can offer. Detroit can make Okudah their top corner and have him follow every team’s top wideout. He may struggle early, but it’ll be growing pains.
3. Joe Burrow – Cincinatti Bengals
The top 3 prospects best fits’ are the top 3 teams I know. It’s boring, but it’s true. Cincinnati has a nice receiving core, a good running back and Jonah Williams returning to play left tackle. They have a good foundation.
4. Tua Tagovailoa – Los Angeles Chargers
A twist! The situation in L.A. is going to be GREAT for any quarterback. Similar to the Bengals, the Chargers have a a couple of great receivers and a good running back. Unlike the Bengals, they have Trai Turner and Hunter Henry as well. Tua would thrive.
5. Jedrick Wills Jr. – Miami Dolphins
With offensive linemen, opportunity and position are very important with fit. Wills would be able to get ample playing time his first year and would probably be blocking for Trevor Lawrence or Justin Fields the following year if Miami picks him at 5.
6. Jerry Jeudy – San Francisco 49ers
Jerry Jeudy in Kyle Shanahan’s offense is a match made in heaven. Jeudy would immediately become their top receiver and given plenty of opportunity to produce.
7. Isaiah Simmons – New York Giants
Isaiah Simmons is going to need some time to adjust to the NFL. He’ll need a year or two to bulk up and the Giants will be able to give him that time. Simmons will become the cornerstone of the Giants defense.
8. Derrick Brown – Jacksonville Jaguars
Trade Calais Campbell. Draft Derrick Brown. Brown will slide in and be able to play all 3 downs from day 1. He won’t get as much protection, but he’ll get the playing time he needs to grow.
9. Ceedee Lamb – Oakland Raiders
Meet Derek Carr’s favorite target. Carr would greatly benefit from Lamb’s wide catch-radius and YAC ability. He’s a great fit in Gruden’s offense.
10. Tristan Wirfs – Cleveland Browns
With the Browns signing Jack Conklin, Wirfs would be able to play guard his first year in the league, and there’s no better set up for him.
11. Javon Kinlaw – Atlanta Falcons
Kinlaw can become the interior wrecking-ball for a team that just signed Dante Fowler to rush off the edge.
12. Henry Ruggs III – Arizona Cardinals
Adding Henry Ruggs to Larry Fitzgerald, Christian Kirk, Kenyan Drake, Deandre Hopkins and Kyler Murray with Kliff Kingsbury at the helm? The Cardinals would probably contend for the bets offense in the NFL at that point and Ruggs would get the ball in space often.
13. Mekhi Becton – Indianapolis Colts
Becton, the draft’s rawest prospect, would be able to ease himself into the league playing next to Quenton Nelson.
14. K’Lavon Chaisson – Tampa Bay Buccaneers
K’Lavon Chaisson would be dangerous rushing the passer in this defense. He’d also get plenty of one-on-one situations with Shaq Barrett on the other side.
15. Andrew Thomas – New York Jets
Sam Darnold needs protection bad and Thomas will be able to provide that. His solid technique makes it easier for him to join a team with a less-established offensive line.
