August 21st was a big day for Columbia, South Carolina. Beyonce and Jay-Z’s mega world tour made a stop in Columbia, a town that normally doesn’t get a show that big. The crowd was so huge they had to host the concert in Williams-Brice Stadium. Well, for football fans, this was very troubling news. South Carolina is starting its most anticipated football season in years this Saturday. Then, one of the world’s premier power couples came in and destroyed the football field.

According to Athletic Director Ray Tanner, the school was aware of the timetable and the reconstruction that would be needed and were not concerned. However, a week before kickoff this is the work being done to the field.

The one great part about this fiasco is the emergence of superstar, Clark Cox. If you think people like Jim Harbaugh and Coach O are football guys, wait until you see someone who works on different sods on football fields for a living. That is a man who has no desire for money or glory, but truly lives and breathes football.

The star of this turf show is Clark Cox. Clark is the Assistant Athletic Director of Field and Turf at the University of South Carolina, and Clark loves turf.

“The challenges are what make this fun.” Clark Cox wishes this concert would’ve been the Friday night before the game so he could’ve done the whole thing the night before the game. Having a full week at his disposal is absolute child’s play. I don’t have any kids, but if I do, I don’t think I will ever love them as much as Clark Cox loves turf.

As of Monday the turf is completely planted and should be set for Saturday’s 12:00 EST kickoff against Coastal Carolina.

If there are no injuries on Saturday, I will revoke my beef with Beyonce and Jay-Z, but for now, just know you two are at the top of my list (I know you’re both avid readers of the U).

P.S. If you want a bonus tip, take Coastal Carolina +29 against the Cocks. I have all the faith in the world in my Gamecocks, but with Georgia coming up week two, all key starters will be pulled pretty early.
