It was rivalry week, mostly everyone’s favorite week of college football. This is the one week in football where I expect every game to be relatively close. Well this year was almost the complete opposite. There were only 5 “rivalry” games that were decided by a TD or less. Many of the games were blow outs and it was a little disappointing. However this week in Biggest Win/Most Cupcake Win of the week, my decision is pretty easy. Ohio St. had a historical day in The Game and same as Florida but in a different way. These two teams win Biggest Win and Most Cupcake Win respectively.
Most Cupcake Win of the Week: #11 Florida beat Florida St. 41-14
This loss for Florida St. guarantees that they will not make a bowl game for the first time in 36 years. With this win Florida not only snapped that streak but also positioned themselves nicely for a bowl game, as well as snapping another one of FSU’s streaks. The last time FSU had a losing record was in 1976. Blowing out your biggest rival and causing them to have a losing season is something a player can only dream of.
The Gators offense totaled 536 yards of offense. It wasn’t a one-dimensional game for the Gators either, as they had 254 yards passing and 282 yards rushing. Giving the offense a look that the FSU defense just couldn’t stop. The Gator defense dominated as well, only allowing 291 total yards and for 3 turnovers. They just dominated on all sides of the ball and beat up on a weak FSU team this year.
Biggest Win of the Week: #10 Ohio St. beats #4 Michigan 62-39
Yes, you read that right, 62 POINTs. The Michigan defense was ranked #1 in the country heading into this game and got completely dismantled by the Buckeyes. Dwayne Haskins threw for 6 TDs and broke Drew Brees’ B1G record for most passing TDs in a season. The game looked to be a blowout until Ohio St.’s Demario McCall dropped the kickoff and Michigan recovered with 45 seconds left before half. The score was 21-6 before Michigan scored 2 TDs in 6 seconds. Making the score 21-19 going into halftime.
From there Ohio St. blocked a punt for a TD, intercept 2 different Michigan QBs, and scored 38 points all in the 2nd half. This win for Ohio St. not only gives them bragging rights for another year, but it also shoots their playoff hopes up a ton. It looks like it is going to come down to who the CFP committee likes more, the Buckeyes or the Sooners. But that’s a whole other conversation to have. For now this win for the Buckeyes is the biggest win of the week.
