Over the next couple weeks I will be doing a series on the top unsigned recruits in college football. I will be overviewing them and their recruitment as well as making predictions for their final choices. My first article today will be on the top unsigned recruit left in the ESPN 300, at number 4, Marvin Wilson.

Out of Houston, Texas and Episcopal High School is goliath Marvin Wilson. With almost otherworldly size for a high schooler its no surprise Wilson is a highly coveted recruit across the country. Standing at 6’4 and weighing in at 332 pounds officially, he caused havoc amongst offensive lines in the state of Texas from his defensive tackle spot. According to ESPN rankings, Wilson is not only the best defensive tackle in the state of Texas but the best defensive tackle in the country. Even with his massive size, Wilson reportedly is nearing a 5 second 40, with his best 40 time clocking in at 5.17. Marvin Wilson has been offered by over 25 schools, and I’m sure they’re all anxiously awaiting his decision.

Marvin Wilson himself has begun narrowing down the schools to his top 5. Surprisingly for big time recruits, Alabama isn’t on the list. Marvin’s top 5 schools according to his twitter page are LSU, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Florida State, and USF. USF seems to be the outlier there being the only school not from a power 5 conference but if we remember last year Ed Oliver, also ranked 4th in the country and also on the defensive line, chose to go to Houston and play for the Cougars, making him the first 5 star recruit to go to a non power 5 school. Wilson did use 4 of his official visits to go to all of his top 5, excluding USF, so its safe to assume he probably won’t be heading down to Tampa to join Charlie Strong and the Bulls. 24/7 sports crystal ball metric has Wilson overwhelmingly going to LSU, with 66% of predictions for him to go there. 12% of predictions have him to either Florida State or Texas, and 3% of predictions have him going to Alabama or Ohio State. On Wednesday though, Wilson decided to maybe stir the pot a little bit. He tweeted out a picture of him in an Ohio State jersey with the caption “Thinking about joining my boys. I’m trying to be great.” He also added scarlet and gray emojis and #GoBucks. This tweet seems to be in reference to the fact that Ohio State has signed 3 of the top 5 recruits out of Texas in 2017 in DB Jeffrey Okudah, LB Baron Browning and RB J.K Dobbins. It is still unknown whether Wilson was serious in his tweet or whether he was just trying to “stir the pot” a little bit.

As an Ohio State fan I sure would love if Wilson were to decide to come join the boys in Columbus for what is sure to be a fearsome defensive line next season, but in reality I side with most crystal ball predictors and say LSU. Recruit Bubba Bolden thew up the “O’ in reference to the “O-H-I-O” days before announcing his decision to attend USC. It now seems he was simply trying to stir the pot and I believe Wilson was doing the same. Regardless of where he ends up, I see Wilson starting very, very soon and be a terrorizing force on defense for years to come. Best of luck to him in whatever decision he makes.
