Texas Christian University has been known to have some of the best college football uniforms in the country. Who would have guessed that little ole TCU would consistently come up as having the best uniforms in the state of Texas, one of the biggest football states? The fact that TCU has a sponsorship with Nike does mean that they get uniform updates easier. They have been rocking that purple for ages, so let’s take a look into my top five uniform combinations throughout the years.

#5 Rose Bowl (2010)

Let’s start off with this oldie but goodie. This uniform combination is a classic. The color scheme is simple with purple

bottoms, black tops, and purple helmets. The team wore this in their 21-19 victory over Wisconsin in the 2010 Rose Bowl to finish what was an epic season for the Horned Frogs undefeated.

#4 Alamo Bowl Comeback (2016)
Let me start off by saying both TCU and their opponents in this game, the Oregon Ducks, have some of the best uniforms in college football due to their

sponsorships with Nike. The Frogs took the field in their purple frog skin tops, white bottoms, and matte purple frog skin helmets, which is my personal favorite headgear. TCU looked very stylish in this game. They went on to beat Oregon in double overtime, after being down 31-0 at halftime, making this one of the most exciting bowl games of the decade.

#3 TCU vs Baylor (2015)
This game was a wet one. Both teams struggled to get any points on the board. TCU ended up winning, but their uniform combination was the real winner in this game, good for #3 on the list. During this rainy game, TCU wore their black tops with the purple sleeves that matched their purple frog-skin pants, and topped off the uniform with the purple chrome helmets. Did I mention that TCU ended up winning this one in double overtime? Also, if you look very closely, you can see the frog skin in the white number on the jersey. Nike was very intricate when they designed TCU’s current uniforms.

#2 All White (2016)
I am such a fan when it comes to solid color college football uniforms. The All White TCU football uniforms are “icy”. I know that was so basic of me to say, but they truly are icy and Nike did an amazing job designing these uniforms. Since the All White uniforms are their away uniforms they certainly make a statement when taking the field.

#1 All Black (2016)

I know you all have heard the saying, “black is a slimming color” but that is not the reason the “All-Black” color scheme is number 1 on my list. It is number 1 because of the tradition behind it. TCU normally wears this color scheme for their big home games every year, so if you ever catch TCU in “All Black”, just know it is a big game. Another reason I love this colorway is that it looks very sleek, but tough at the same time. You just can’t go wrong with All Black, and knowing TCU and how well they choose what helmet to go with each uniform colorway, makes the All Black my all time favorite uniform.

All together, TCU’s uniform combinations impress me, but believe me, they have also picked some bad combinations. We’ll see on September 2nd what uniform combination they choose for their season opener. If you want a more in depth look into TCU Football’s Equipment program click here.
