The Hobey Baker Award is college hockey‘s Heisman Trophy. Named after American hockey hall of famer, Hobey Baker, the award is given annually to the nations best player.

St. Cloud State’s, Jimmy Schuldt, was a finalist for the award last season and finished in the top 10 for voting. The defenseman has built himself another case for the award and has once again been named a finalist.

The senior captain has started all 28 games this season and has tallied 25 points on eight goals and 17 assists. His 25 points leads all NCHC defensemen in total points. He also plays a pivotal role on a SCSU penalty kill that ranks fourth in the country at 87% and a scoring defense that ranks 11th in the country.

The captain elected to return to SCSU for his senior year instead of going to the NHL after last season. After a frozen four loss to Air Force last season, it appears as if he has some unfinished business to do with the Huskies. The Huskies currently sit at #1 in the USCHO rankings and are favorites to win the National Title.

Schuldt returned to St. Cloud to win a national title. A Hobey Baker award would be the icing on the cake for Schuldt’s fantastic career.
