After already making history with their win on Tuesday night, the Toronto Six shocked the masses again, finding another significant performance deep within.. The team fired on all cylinders throughout the game as they seemed completely ready for the challenge against the Buffalo Beauts. Originally scheduled between the Metropolitan Riveters and the Buffalo Beauts, a sudden schedule change due to the NWHL’s medical protocols deemed it unsafe.
The Six came in aggressive just as on Tuesday and led the charge by scoring first. Brooke Boquist scored her second goal of the season in the first period with an assist from Emma Woods, now tied for the lead in assists with four. The Beauts would come back and answer in a huge way with two goals from Autumn MacDougall that gave them a 2-1 lead after the first period.
The Toronto Six would then counter with two goals of their own in the second period by Taylor Woods and Megan Quinn that gave the Six the 3-2 lead. An energetic offensive attack created a barrage of 49 shots on net, controlling the puck for most of the game and not letting the Beauts have many opportunities.
Backs Against The Wall
In the third period, Toronto Six forward, Shainn Darkangelo got a penalty for high-sticking, resulting in a 6-on-4 power play for the Beauts after they took their goalie out. However, the Six seemed unfazed by the obstacle ahead as the Beauts failed to gain possession of the puck in the final minute of regulation. The defensive effort loomed large in victory with big props to Elaine Chuli, the Toronto Six goalie, for making 24 saves with a save percentage of .923, earning her first star.
Returning to form with a postgame celebrate dance in the hallway, it quells any preseason doubts about chemistry for the expansion roster. Joyous is victory, the Six certainly seem to mesh.
