The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets are definitely an interesting team coming into 2023. After a 5-7 season where head coach Geoff Collins got fired after a 1-3 start, the then interim head coach Brent Key went 4-4 for the Yellow Jackets in eight games as a head coach. Georgia Tech showed some potential last season under Key, but will that trend continue in 2023? Here is the preview for this year’s 2023 Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets.

Offense

Last year’s starting quarterback Jeff Sims transferred to Nebraska. We now have an interesting quarterback battle between Zach Pyron, who showed potential to be the star of the show as a big, talented all-around quarterback, and Texas A&M transfer Haynes King. Both have shown flashes of potential to play quarterback, so coach Key has a hard decision to make on who will be QB1.

They have two talented receivers to come in as transfers in Dominick Blaylock from Georgia and Christian Leary from Alabama. These two targets should help the Yellow Jackets passing game, which was abysmal at times last season. Now they have those figured out the skill set players, but the question marks are at the offensive line. The inconsistency of the offensive line has been the Yellow Jackets’ downfall for years now. However, they have four starters coming back from last year’s team and now have size to work around. Georgia Tech’s offensive game should pick up in 2023 and could be something to key an eye out for as the Yellow Jackets look to become bowl eligible for the first time since 2018.

Defense

This Georgia Tech defense was horrible against the run in 2022. They got better with two transfers coming in looking to make a big impact in 2023. Braelen Oliver from Minnesota and Andre White from Texas A&M will be the two big dogs at linebacker for Georgia Tech. These two will have the chance to be the main contributors for this front seven of the Yellow Jackets. This secondary also has potential as LaMiles Brooks is one of the best safeties in the ACC and will create havoc wherever he is on the football field.

The Yellow Jackets defensive scheme works well when their defensive lineman are creating pressure on the quarterback. If guys like Noah Collins, D’Quan Douse, Kyle Kennard and company are putting pressure consistently on opposing quarterbacks, this Georgia Tech team has the potential to be a bowl eligible team.

Win Total Prediction

The Georgia Tech win total is set at 4.5 wins. The under is at -134 odds on the FanDuel Sportsbook, while the over is set at +110. I really do think this Georgia Tech team has the potential to be a bowl eligible team this year. With the way that the odds are shaped out I am going to take the over 4.5 win total at +110 odds for 2 units. They’ll figure out their quarterback competition during camp, but I think either of those guys can help this team get to 5 or more wins in 2023. I am going to ride the Yellow Jackets to win five or more games this year.
