The NBA is obviously one of the most successful professional sports leagues in the world. Not just for the game, but also for the off-court storylines, crazy player movement, and the social media following.

I have been a basketball fan most of my life. The first time I started watching NBA as a kid was with Dwayne Wade and the Heat. That transformed into watching Kobe take on the Celtics’ big three. Through the years I have tried to find an NBA team to root for as my own, but found myself rooting for individual players and unable to keep an active rooting interest for any team. For background, I’m from Missouri and there are no NBA teams within a reasonable distance from me, so there’s no geographical ties to even latch on to.

This is why I am enlisting the help of you, the Student Union audience, to help me decide on who my NBA team will be going forward. I am looking to get excited about the league and a team once again. Over the next few weeks leading up to the season, I will be narrowing down my list with the help of all of you. I love fast paced offense and three point shooting, so the right playing style will be of great importance. Please take to twitter (@CodyGoggin) and either convince me why I should root for your team, tell me what team I should root for, or what criteria I should go off of when selecting my new allegiance.

This is part one and I will be releasing eliminations each Monday morning. This week I just want to start off by taking a couple teams off of my list that I refuse to root for: The LA Lakers and the Cleveland Cavaliers. I have never been a Lebron fan and I cannot bring myself to root for these two teams. For the other 30 teams, it is fair game and I can’t wait to have a team to defend to the death in meaningless Twitter fights.
