If there’s one thing I hate in this world it is preseason rankings. And snakes. But snakes don’t apply here. After watching three weeks of ball, it becomes a little easier to see where teams fit into the puzzle. However, with so many cupcakes on the schedule for a lot of teams, the numbers can still be skewed. Here are my 25 best teams in college football right now, with write-ups for the Top 10.

1. Florida State

Despite a close, scary win over BC this weekend it is hard to not say the Noles have been the most impressive team in the country thus far. Their blowout win over an LSU team that could very well win the SEC trumps a sleepy noon kick in Chestnut Hill.

2. Texas

Texas is back, folks. While I had Oklahoma taking the Big 12 preseason, this Longhorns teams has been electric. Quinn Ewers took that next step, and a close win over Wyoming wasn’t all that shocking given the previous week.

3. Georgia

The Bulldogs were not all that great in their first game against real competition. The good news is, they have a relatively soft schedule for the SEC and should win the East.

4. Penn State

Freshman QB Drew Allar (confirmed elite by me preseason) struggled mightily yesterday against Illinois. He finished 16/33 for 208 yards. And the Nittany Lions won 30-13. This roster is stacked and is a major reason why I took them to win the national championship.

5. Michigan

This ranking is out of respect and knowing what is on the team but not necessarily for the product we’ve seen on the field. UNLV has been the best team they’ve played so far, and obviously that isn’t saying much. Harbaugh is now back for conference play which should add some style points.

6. Notre Dame

I was a bit of a hater of the Irish going into this season and I thought both Navy and NC State would give them a run for their money. Sam Hartman has been even better than advertised and this Notre Dame squad will be battle tested with upcoming clashes with Ohio State, Duke, Louisville, USC, and Clemson.

7. Miami (FL)

Texas is back, but sneaky so is the U. Miami got a big win over Texas A&M last weekend to cement them into my Top 10. The ACC seems very up for grabs behind Florida State and with no divisions, things could get very interesting. Tyler Van Dyke has been impressive thus far.

8. Washington

I might have been very wrong about this Huskies team. The competition hasn’t been top-notch, but they have absolutely hammered everyone in their path. Michigan State could have been a trap yesterday, but instead the Huskies went out and won 41-7 on the road.

9. Oregon

The Bo Nix for Heisman campaign is off to a hot start. Winning at Texas Tech is no joke and the Ducks did that with some style points at the end. Enjoy the ride before the PAC 12 consumes itself.

10. USC

I know, GASP. USC behind Washington and Oregon?! Caleb Williams rules, but have you seen how bad this defense is? They are going to get exposed once conference play rolls around against the insane lineup of quarterbacks in the PAC 12. It is going to take some absolutely special performances from Williams for the Trojans to make the playoffs.
