We are now down to just 15 contenders who have a shot to make it to the CFB Playoffs. After an uproar last week for Texas A&M being over Washington, A&M proceeded to lose to a below average Mississippi State team, effectively eliminating themselves from SEC and playoff contention. As of right now, it seems to be a pretty clean looking playoff picture, but all hell can break loose in colege football and that’s where the rest of these teams come in.

Prime Position

  1. Alabama- With a impressive defensive effort against LSU, Alabama remain in the driver’s seat for the top seed in the playoffs.
  2. Clemson- After thrashing Syracuse this past week, Clemson still controls their own destiny on the road to the ACC Championship game.
  3. Michigan- It should all come down to the Michigan-Ohio State showdown. If the winner of that game can take the momentum into Indy to win the conference championship, they will make it.
  4. Washington- After the controversy of last week, Washington jumps into the final spot in the playoffs. The Huskies have a tough matchup on College GameDay this week with USC.
  5. Ohio State- The Buckeyes are able to move up one spot this week, but that does not do their 62-3 win over #10 Nebraska its justice. This team is as talented as ever and with wins over Michigan and in the conference champion, they could be looking at another national title.

Need Some Help

  1. Louisville- Louisville did their part by destroying Boston College, but they still need a couple of the teams ahead of them to start losing.
  2. Wisconsin- It was a big win for Ohio State over Nebraska, but may be even bigger for Wisconsin who now takes over the Big Ten West and can be set up for a de-facto playoff elimination game with Michigan or Ohio State in the championship.
  3. Auburn- Now that Texas A&M lost, it looks more and more likely that the Iron Bowl could decide the SEC West, and potentially the playoff picture.
  4. Oklahoma- Need the rest of the Big 12 leaders to win and boost their records, would need to win the Big 12, and have quite a few teams lose, but still an outside shot.

Longshot, But Still in the Hunt

  1. Penn State
  2. Colorado
  3. Utah
  4. Oklahoma State
  5. Virginia Tech
  6. West Virginia
