Russell Westbrook Becomes All-Time Triple-Double Leader

With his 182 triple-double on Monday night in Atlanta, Russell Westbrook officially breaks his two day tie with NBA Hall of Famer Oscar Robinson to become the NBA’s all-time triple-double leader.

Westbrook was able to post 28 points, 21 assists , and 13 rebounds in a 124-125 loss to the Hawks on Monday.

This is now his fourth season in five years averaging a triple-double.

2016-17 (OKC): 31.6 PPG, 10.4 AST, 10.7 TRB

2017-18 (OKC): 25.4 PPG, 10.3 AST, 10.1 TRB

2018-19 (OKC): 22.9 PPG, 10.7 AST, 11.1 TRB

2020-21 (WAS): 22.0 PPG, 11.5 AST, 11.6 TRB, 3 regular season games remaining

Oscar Robinson is the only other player to average a triple-double for an entire season (1961-62). NBA fans should appreciate what Westbrook is doing while they can because it will be a very long time until they see another player come close to what he’s doing as a 6’3 point guard. The record had previously stood for 47 years.

Not only is Westbrook playing out of his mind statistically but he’s also heavily responsible for the Wizards turnaround after being one of the worst teams a little over a month ago. Though they didn’t get the win on Monday, his play as of recent has positioned the Wizards to possibly earn a playoff spot through the NBA’s Play-In tournament.
