While the bowl season is quickly heating up with some bigger-name teams getting ready to suit up for their final game, it’s time to take the Student Union 64 team college football playoff into the second round. There are just 32 teams remaining, and by early next week we will be down to 16 (see below for full schedule and past links). Today we’ll get moving with the left side of the bracket — headlined in the West region by Oklahoma and in the Midwest region by Alabama. Tickets to the neutral site Sweet 16 are on the line and with just about every top-4 seed still alive, there’s plenty of potential for upsets.

We start things off with a major scare for the Sooners. ASU missed a field goal as time expired which would have sent the game to overtime and without three interceptions thrown by Manny Wilkins, we could have been looking at the fall of our number one overall seed.

No better outcome the second time around for Washington State in the Apple Cup rematch. Three Luke Falk picks and the nation loses Coach Leach until next season.

This is the first Group of Five team into the regional semifinals. Remember that this team went 1-11 last year and fired their head coach.

The Pac 12 gets their second spot and denies the Mountain West a chance for theirs. Sam Darnold: 25-42, 372 yards, 2 TD, 2 INT.

No scare for Bama. Jalen Hurts: 89 yards passing and one touchdown, 157 yards rushing and two touchdowns.

If this tournament was a thing every year for the past eight or so years, I feel like Stanford to the Sweet 16 would have been automatic every time.

The Big 10 gets its first spot and the Big 12’s hopes are completely riding on Oklahoma now. Trace McSorely: 32-43, 441 yards, 4 TD, 1 INT.

Second G5 team rolls through to prevent this region from going all chalk. Wisconsin is now the highest seed to lose.
