Northern Illinois (-5.5) vs Central Michigan (O/U 45.5) 7:00 PM EST

The Northern Illinois Huskies head to Mount Pleasant Michigan to take on the Chippewas of Central Michigan. NIU’s offense is led by Antario Brown who has rushed for 676 yards on 5.9 yards per carry and 6 touchdowns. The Huskies offense averages 24.3 points per game and average 154.3 rushing yards per game as well. The one struggle of this Huskies offense is their passing game. Rocky Lombardi has shown some inconsistencies all season long. This offense also averages less than 200 passing yards per game.

Defensively, the Huskies are fantastic against the pass. They allow 163.6 passing yards per game which is 22nd in the country. Northern Illinois allows 326.1 total yards per game which is 56th in the country. The Huskies allow 38.1% of their opponents third down attempts to be successful. If the NIU defense shows up, they are going to be good for their matchup against Central Michigan.

The Chippewas offensive has been alright this season. Central Michigan averages 338.8 total yards of offense per game. They are led by quarterback Jase Bauer who has 12 total touchdowns and 6 interceptions. The Chippewas average 21.8 points per game and will need their offense to show up at home against a good NIU defense. Defensively, the Chippewas are horrendous against the pass. They allow 251.2 passing yards per game and they give up 29.8 points per game as well. Central Michigan needs their pass defense to be good this week against this NIU offense. If Central Michigan wants to win this game they need their defense to take a step forward.

The Don’s Best Bet

I am taking Central Michigan +5.5 -110 for one unit. The Chippewas have been very good against Northern Illinois. Rocky Lombardi has not been great at times, especially on the road. He averages 171.7 passing yards in his road starts this season. Central Michigan easily covers this number and potentially even wins this game outright.
