Well folks it finally happened, Josiah “The Flowin’ Samoan” Tauaefa has officially foregone his fourth season of eligibility at UTSA to prepare himself for the NFL draft and honestly as a roadrunner fan myself, I wish him all the best. Tauaefa was our first real super star. We had D-Mo a stand out Tight End who does a lot of damage to NFC north defenses, and we’ve also had our first Draft pick, 1st round none the less, Marcus Davenport, but no one this school has ever seen was as universally recognized at Josiah.

Was it his chiseled jaw line, his piercing eyes, his standout defense or his luscious locks?

It’s the hair.

But seriously Josiah is and will always be one of the best football players, both character and skill wise, I’ve ever met.

Tauaefa holds the single season record for tackles at UTSA, is every Roadrunner mom’s biggest crush and was named on numerous All-American and All-Conference teams, but he will always admit that one of his greatest honors was being able to lead our young program to its first ever bowl game. Let it never be said this man does not love this school. As a member of the band I’ve seen plenty of guys just walk on by in the pregame festivities, but Josiah is different. Every Saturday, be it 98 degrees, or raining, is in front of the team walking in his hand making our “Birds Up” and singing our fight song with all he had. After wins he would sing the Alma Mater with pride, and after losses he would sing it with a sense of longing to bring this school greatness. In his three years here, he has brought us greatness.

Whenever Josiah was on the field we as fans felt safe that he would give all he had to keep the other team from scoring, and even though some times we would get demolished there was never a sense of defeat in him, every snap was the most important snap he played.

Are we as fans sad to see him go? Sure, he’s every single one of our’s favorite player and it’ll take a lot for someone to take that place from him, but are we proud of what he has accomplished and everything he will do? Of course we are.

Good luck Flowin’ Samoan, Now and Forever you are a Roadrunner
