There’s big news coming out of Storrs, CT today as senior guard Tristen Newton has withdrawn his name from the 2023 NBA Draft and will be running it back with the Huskies. Newton pulled a Jordan Belfort and told Dan Hurley and Co. that “I’M NOT FUCKIN’ LEAVING!

This is huge as UConn lost Adama Sanogo, Jordan Hawkins, and (potentially) Andre Jackson. Newton is going into his fifth year of college hoops and his second as a Husky. He’ll continue to bring veteran level leadership and build a new big three at UConn with himself, Clingan, and Karaban. Newton’s return only means one thing… The UConn Huskies are going to win the 2024 National Championship. Cue Back to Back by Drake.

Standing at 6’5, playing guard makes him a matchup nightmare for any other guard in the nation. This past season, Newton averaged 10.1 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 4.7 assists while shooting 37.4% from the field. Newton really elevated his play in the tournament when he averaged 9.5 points, 5.8 rebounds and 5.2 assists. In the National Championship vs San Diego State, Newton had an unreal game dropping a double-double with 19 points, 10 boards, 4 assists, 2 steals, and shot 45.5%.

UConn is still waiting to see if star forward Andre Jackson will withdraw his name, but with him being a potential late first round pick, I don’t see him coming back to the Basketball Capital of the World.
