We’re living in some wild times right now. Traditionally, people watch sports to get away from politics, but politics and sports have never been more intertwined. If you don’t believe it, then explain why the national anthem is STILL the most talked about part of football.

Like it or not, our president understands the pulse of our nation like few other in history have before. He knows how to rile up his fanbase, and bait his opponents into reacting however he wants. Make no mistake, when Trump tweeted this last night,

it had absolutely nothing to do with his own opinion on the MJ vs. Lebron debate and everything about his trip to Ohio today.

At first glance, you might think that attacking LeBron would be detrimental before a trip to the state he brought a championship to and just built a school in. At first, you’d be right. But let’s not forget that another man has also brought a championship to the state: Urban Meyer.

OSU fans don’t quite know where to direct their anger yet. Some say that until the details are all laid out, they won’t take a stance, but those people are grasping for straws. There are very few dots missing. Urban has admitted that he felt the need to lie in response to nine different questions from reporters at Big Ten media day regarding Zach Smith’s domestic abuse. A man who was once quoted saying,

is now asking the world to understand that it was okay when he did it, because he was unprepared to discuss a 3 year old topic. There is something fishy going on over there, and if you can’t see that by now I’ll schedule the eye doctor appointment for you.

Trump just allowed the state of Ohio to shift their focus for a night. They had the opportunity to forget that Urban Meyer will be in THE Ohio State penitentiary before ever coaching at the university again. Instead they laughed at memes online and defended LeBron’s honor. Trump doesn’t really think poorly of LeBron at all.

But he does understand that he delayed the outrage in Ohio for a night. He understands LeBron just left Cleveland for a second time. He understands that there are more feelings of betrayal from Urban Meyer now, and goddamn he understands that if there’s anyone that the people of Ohio will go out and vote against right now it’s a liar.

So calm down, the most powerful man in the world did not just give the final ruling on the debate of all debates. You all just played pawns in his political chess match.
